FG approves N12.5bn billion to buy 200 CNG-powered Toyota Land Cruiser 70 “Buffaloes” for the Nigeria Customs Service.
An additional sum of N522 million was also granted by FG to insure the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series pickup trucks.
The Aproval was granted at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, chaired by the Nigerian President Bola Tinubu.
The Federal Government has approved the sum of N12.5 billion for the purchase of Two Hundred (200) brand new Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series ‘Buffalo’ pickup trucks for the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
The approval was granted on Tuesday May 14th 2024 at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, chaired by the Nigerian President Bola Tinubu.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made this known in a statement, adding that an additional sum of N522 million was also granted to insure the offroad vehicles.

He also noted that the Toyota Land Cruiser Buffalo pickup trucks will be powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), adding that the insurance cover for the vehicles will be provided by NEM Insurance Plc.
“Council approved the request by Nigeria Customs Service to buy 200 Toyota Land Cruiser Buffalo V6 at a cost of N12.5 billion,” Bayo Onanuga said in a statement titled with “Highlights Of The Federal Executive Council Meetings Held On 13TH And 14TH MAY, 2024”.
“All the vehicles will be CNG powered. Government also approved insurance cover for the vehicles at a cost of N522 million. The cover will be provided by NEM.”
Also at the FEC meeting on Monday, the Federal Government directed all its Ministries, Departments and Agencies to procure only vehicles powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
