Overview
We work to make sure people have access to clean and safe fuels and technologies for cooking and heating. The lack of access to clean cooking is a big, often overlooked problem that mostly affects women and children in the world’s poorest communities. This issue has serious health, social, and environmental impacts.
Indoor pollution from open fires or stoves used for cooking or heating causes the early death of 3.8 million people every year – nearly half of all air pollution-related deaths. In Nigeria, it's estimated that women and children spend up to 18 hours a week collecting wood and other fuels for home energy use. This is time that could be spent on education, making money, or resting. It also leads to deforestation and environmental damage.
