Audi’s New Electric Vehicle Series For Chinese Market Won’t Have Its Signature Four-ring Logo : Report

Audi’s new electric vehicle (EV) series for the Chinese market won’t have its signature four-ring logo, sources told Reuters.

The move reflects the use of EV platform and advanced technologies from Chinese companies.

Concept car for the EV series, codenamed “Purple”, will be unveiled in November, while nine models are planned by 2030.

Audi Electric Vehicles currently sold in China will continue to have the German brand’s four-interlocking ring logo.

Chinese-made Audis includes Q4 e-tron made with joint venture partner FAW and the Q5 e-tron SUV made with SAIC.

An upcoming Made-in-China Audi electric cars series for the Chinese market will not have the premium marque’s iconic four-ring logo, two people with direct knowledge of the plans has told Reuters.

Per Reuters report, the decision is due to “brand image consideration,” which reflects the use of electrical architecture of SAIC’s EV brand, IM Motors, and CATL battery and an advanced driving assistance system (ADAS) from Chinese tech startup, Momenta.

A concept car for the EV series, codenamed “Purple” internally, will be unveiled this November, while nine models are planned by 2030, the sources added.

Audi EVs currently sold in China, including the Q4 e-tron (and upcoming Q6 e-tron) made with joint venture partner FAW and the Q5 e-tron SUV made with SAIC, will continue to have the brand’s four-interlocking ring logo.

The all-new Q6 e-tron which will arrive this year as the Audi’s first car to use VW’s advanced premium platform electric (PPE) platform, will use an ADAS supplied by Huawei, the sources added.
